We had an amazing hiking experience with Karen, we drove to a family ranch outside Cabo. From the ranch Karen took us on a beautiful hike up the mountain to a natural swimming pool. We saw lots of wildlife and ate fresh fruits along the way. We were accompanied by two local ranchers who shared lots of knowledge about their home. One of the ranch dogs also followed us on the hike, which was cool. The weather was hot, but the trail provided opportunities to stop along the river to relax and cool off. Karen also provided refreshments and snacks. After the hike we had an amazing authentic lunch served by the family at the ranch. The food was awesome, all of it fresh and grown on the farm. Overall we would definitely recommend this tour to anyone looking for an authentic, local, and personal experience. This was our favorite activity during our week in Cabo and we would definitely book with Karen again on our next trip!
We went to Cabo for my husbands 40th birthday and I searched the internet for places to dive and places to see Whale Sharks. I found Karen! She came with High ratings and when I began emailing, she was quick to answer and didn’t show any sign of irritation with my many questions. I booked both trips with her and am so glad I did. Karen was communicative and very knowledgeable. She gave us info on the island, the diving, and the whale sharks. She was able to be flexible with the weather and gave us days that were optimal for the conditions we were facing. She never gave up and our Whale Shark excursion was awesome. We stopped for breakfast and stopped for lunch at great places. We also visited one of the most beautiful beaches that I have ever seen. Karen was wonderful and when we go back we will definitely book with her again and again. Thank you for making our trip great Karen!!!!!!
Scuba is new to me and I’m starting late in life (72). I’ve never been that comfortable in the water, but I decided I wanted to live before I die, so I’m going to do this. My first few times were with someone other than Adventures in Baja. Now I’m so blessed to have found Karen. She is an instructor extraordinaire. When I was having trouble with anxiety, she was able to get me beyond that and taught me with such respect. She makes it fun; a real pleasure for me. Her attention to detail and knowledge of all things water are a big part of why I am so happy now. But she is a genuinely kind person as well, and wants her clients not only to succeed, but to love scuba. Even a 72 year old woman who has never done it before. Such patience! Thanks, Karen. You rock!
We spent 2 weeks with Karen as our personal guide. We weren’t sure what we wanted to do so she came up with an amazing itinerary which blew our minds. Whatever she promised she delivered. We went whale watching, saw loads of Humpback whales and the highlight was seeing a mother teaching her baby to breach. We snorkeled with Hammerhead sharks, Mako sharks, Whale sharks, played with sealions, went surfing on the Pacific, Paddle Boarding on the Sea of Cortez, went scuba diving with Bull sharks, turtles, a massive array of sea life, on wrecks and on coral. She took us to remote beaches that are only accessible by four wheel drive. Karen knows the area so well, is fluent in Spanish (she’s English) and will tailor whatever you want to do, to suit your ability and needs. We could have gone hiking and done other activities but we’re very much water sports people and we ran out of time. Karen is also a brilliant instructor, very patient and explains everything perfectly. The enjoyment and safety of her clients (who become her friends!) are of paramount importance to her. For our penultimate night and for the last 2 days she took us to Cabo Pulmo, breath taking, awe inspiring place and totally unspoilt. I can’t recommend Adventures in Baja and Karen highly enough. We’ll be back.
After researching different companies in Cabo that offered outdoor adventures I booked three trips with Adventures in Baja. Karen was very friendly and informative when I talked with her on the phone or thru email messaging. She was prompt in replying to my questions. She also provided information on scheduling adventures, what to expect, and what to bring. She picked us up from our resort and was always on time and smile on her face.
Karen is very knowledgeable about the area, marine animals, plants, and environment. I love her passion for the people, animals, and environment. Everywhere we went, the locals welcomed her with a hug and a kiss.
Our first trip was hiking the mountains on a private ranch. We were joined by Rohelio who knew about all the plants and history of the ranch. We tasted different herbs and flowers as Rohelio would explain the medical uses. The hike was moderately difficult and we extremely enjoyed the adventure and swim in the stream. Back at the house, Mama had prepared use a lovely meal which included homemade tortillas and juice made with lemons and oranges we picked off the trees. The juice was sweetened with honey made on the ranch. The meal was delicious. Karen was gracious enough to take pictures of us and send them to us. She took some great photos we will cherish for many years.
Our next trip was to Cabo Pulmo for snorkeling. Karen knew all the local people in this small village along with the divers. She provided wet suits and good snorkeling equipment. The clarity of the water and the abundance of fish was simply amazing. The best snorkeling I have ever done. The people in this village were so nice. Karen took us to a local restaurant and we enjoyed another superb meal. Then a nice walk on the beach and more pictures as my husband and I were celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary.
We had planned a trip to Santu Espiritu to swim with the whale sharks and sea lions but we had to cancel the trip due to rough seas. Karen offered us a alternative, a trip to Todas Sandos. We absolutely loved the day. First we stopped at a beach with a fresh water lagoon and beautiful sand. We had the beach all to ourselves. Words cannot describe the beauty of the palm trees, sand, flowers, cactus, and the beach. We got back in Bertha, her jeep, and drove to Todas Sandos. We visited a mission church, local shops, and the famous “Hotel California”. Again, Karen’s knowledge of the history of the town made the trip fascinating. On the drive back to Cabo San Lucas, we stopped at another quite beach for a picnic lunch. Karen took some more great pictures for us.
If you want to really enjoy your trip and explore the area, contact Karen. You will not be disappointed.
Thanks again Adventures in Baja for an experience of a lifetime. Hopefully we can return soon when the whales arrive.
I’ve been diving with Karen for the last two years. My Friend and I received our Padi Open water certification with Karen and have been diving with her ever since. She has the right knowledge and success that she knows the area very well. She is extremely thorough and thoughtful and what’s what I enjoy about a good diving buddy. I highly recommend her to anyone interested in an experience of a lifetime!
Just couldn’t be better. Karen has a small company that can tailor your dive and other experiences to your needs. I am a very experienced world wide diver and Karen/Adventures in Baja is truly exceptional. We had great dives, including sea lions, a squadron of mobula, HUGE bull sharks–and lots of them!–, schooling jacks and AN UNDERWATER ENCOUNTER WITH TWO HUMPBACK WHALES WHILE DIVING A REEF! Very unusual, but Karen was on top of it recorded it and more for me. She has extraordinary knowledge of everything Baja has to offer–from whale watching to scuba to hiking and more. Call her. You will be glad!
Can’t say enough good things about our experience with Adventure in Baja. We had a diverse group of divers – from beginning to advanced and 12 year olds to adults. Karen came through for each one of us, lending a hand to those with less experience but still making the dive challenging and thrilling for the more advanced. We did 4 dives over the coarse of 2 days and each dive Karen’s professionalism and enthusiasm shown through. I especially liked how reef ecology, protection, and marine biology were incorporated into the dive plan. It made the time spent underwater so much more rich and enjoyable!
I’ve used several dive shops over the years in Cabo San Lucas but Adventures in Baja will be my go-to from here on out.
Karen was amazing to communicate with leading up to our tour. She provided us great insight and options based on what we were interested in; we ended up booking a snorkeling excursion to Cabo Pulmo, a national marine reserve, because we wanted something different and special. And it truly was!
It ended up just being us two with Karen, and though we shared the boat with some locals looking to whale watch, it ended up being a really personalized, private experience. Because of the time of year we went (early March), there was a diverse marine life population around – we saw 5 whales (two mating, one mother and baby, and a gray whale right by our boat!), we swam with a variety of fish, sea lions, and saw a school of sting rays. It was more than we expected for sure. Do keep in mind that this time of year, visibility is not at its peak, however, we still got a lot of great shots underwater.
Overall, if you are looking for a personalized, professional experience, I HIGHLY suggest Karen and Adventures in Baja. They value CONSERVATION and PROFESSIONALISM. It’s educational, flexible, relaxing, and so much fun. The cost is reasonable when you consider everything included – transportation, park fees, lunch – and your money goes towards a good company with a good cause. Compared to other major companies, we went with Karen because of the high value and quality of experience her company provides. (To compare: We got there with another group from a major company — there was about 8 of them in the group, they weren’t out for as long, and I’m pretty sure they didn’t see any whales.)
You can’t go wrong with Karen and Adventures in Baja!
We had such a great time with Karen, she had great customer service the whole time (we only booked a week in advance and she squeezed us in on a trip!) Loved that on our drive she gave us some area history, stopped for some GREAT Empanadas for breakfast, and everything went flawlessly time management wise. Karen is not only a knowledgeable guide, she is clearly a born naturalist and sea-woman. It was so fun to see her JUST as excited in the water during dives as we were. She is SO respectful of the wildlife, regulations and first and foremost wants to keep the animals stress free and comfortable compared to some other outfits in the Cabo area.
