Karen took my daughter and I on an epic trip to Magdalena to spend time with the grey whales. We stayed in a basic but comfortable hotel for two nights in between which we spent a whole day with the whales. In the morning we took a boat at about 8am and found a wonderful nursery area where the mum and baby whales were really happy to come right up to the boat for a cuddle and a kiss. They were so relaxed. In the afternoon we went out towards the lagoon entrance and this time the mother whales seemed more intent on training their babies. They were playful but clearly had stuff to do! Teaching babies to stay under for longer and swim fast through the stronger currents we guessed. We also saw a male, and I believe they come into the lagoon to hook up with mothers and calves to then escort them on their journey later out of the lagoon. So, it was fascinating, educational and just so awesome! You need to do it with someone as passionate about the whales as Karen, and although I am well-travelled and adventurous, I could not have done this without Karen as a guide.
I went on a trip with Adventures in Baja to see the grey whales. It was the best trip in have experienced in my life. The whales came right up to the boat giving us an amazing up close interaction with the beautiful animals. Karen, our guide knew exactly how to attract the whales and took some amazing photos of us. Booking the trip was made easy with the quick communication via email. Overall an amazing experience. I have used this company for trips before and would definitely again in the future.
I looked up recommendations for scuba instructors and found Karen had great reviews. My original plan was to take an advanced open water scuba class with her but it changed. So I asked Karen to plan a custom trip for my sister and I.
– Scuba diving in Cabo San Lucas
– Snorkeling with the sea lions at Isla Espirito Santo and whale sharks at La Paz
– Scuba diving in Cabo Pulmo national park
– Hiking in the Sierra de la Laguna
Extremely happy with all aspects of the trip.
When we look for a guide, we want great communication first and fore most. She definitely met and exceeded that bar. She is a one-person shop that handles every part of the business, yet is so prompt in responding to emails, phone calls, and online messages.
She can also be flexible and accommodating if the need arises. Clients will sometimes have change in plans (like me), and the weather can also play havoc, but she can adjust the trips and satisfy her clients.
Her experience is not just limited to Cabo San Lucas but includes hundreds of miles up the Baja peninsula too. This means she can plan a variety of adventures based on your preferences. For example, whale watching in Magdalena bay is just one of many other options available. She has also developed great relationships with other locals in the business. This shows she really puts in the effort for her job. She has also lived a very interesting life, don’t forget to ask about that.
She keeps the groups she leads very small. She asked whether another couple could join us instead of just assuming we would be fine with it. That was an excellent choice on her part, the other couple made the trips much more interesting and we enjoyed each others’ company. It was awesome to have a boat with only four clients, compared to all the other boats with ten plus clients. It definitely made for a much better experience.
In summary, I would definitely recommend hiring Karen to plan and lead your adventures in the southern Baja. If you are tired of the typical resort attractions and the cattle boats and crowded buses, get Karen to lead you on an adventure you won’t regret.
Baja!!! A place where all year round you can experience the most incredible marine life: killer whales, many species of sharks, sea lions, sea turtles and mobulas (one of the craziest thing I had the pleasure of seeing… their jumps and flips out of the water on their annual migration).
My heart beats fast, my mind wanders and everyday I have a big smile in my face.
I’ve been to many places in my life, and as an ocean and shark lover this place is one of the most incredible ones.
However it is not only the marine life that stands out! This adventure wouldn’t be the same if we didn’t have Karen to show us around. She is an incredible person with an amazing knowledge of marine life and safety underwater.
What a legend!
In addition to the dives, she also advised us in where to go and we had teh pleasure of sharing great chats and sunset views with her. I have no words of gratitude!
We had a group of 8 on our adventure with the goal of swimming with Sea Lions and Whale Sharks. Transportation was provided from our lodgings in Cabo to La Paz 2 hours away with a breakfast stop along the way. Then we were outfitted with snorkel gear and wet suits and spent the day on the water. Karen was engaging and informative. Our skill levels varied in our group but Karen and Sergio (our boat driver) made us all feel so comfortable with their professionalism and guidance that everyone had an exceptional experience throughout the day.
We accomplished all that we set out to do that day and more as we happened upon a pod of dolphins and got to swim with them too. Lunch and plenty of bottled water was provided. Karen provided biodegradable sunscreen and she was very generous in her underwater picture taking, which see shared with us. I would not hesitate to book with Adventures in Baja in my future trips.
We dove Cabo Pulmo and we felt totally safe and Karen pointed out giant grouper, schools, eels and other aquatic life. Pick up was right on time and she was very proactive in handling everything from lunch, gear, safety reminders to bathroom breaks. Real nature lover, utterly pleasant and fascinating to listen and learn from.
Excellent! Karen was so professional. We felt so secure diving with her and made our PADI Open Water Certification. She showed us all the exercises very clear. Definitely next time in Cabo we are going to dive with her. We HIGHLY RECOMMEND Her!
In my experience with adventure and dive guides, Karen is tops. Professional, respectful of the cultures (human and animal) she introduces clients to, personable, endlessly energetic and with a positive attitude in all situations. We did a day in the Sierra de la Laguna with her and the fantastic wizard, Rogelio, who introduced us to medicinal plants, rare butterflies, and the best swimming holes and slides. It was wonderful for our tween kids to experience a side of local culture that’s so special. We then did a private tour with a driver (Luis!) to La Paz. Karen expertly navigated our tight schedule and our suddenly nervous 10 year old snorkeler to create an awesome experience. She even jumped in to grab some last minute footage of a juvenile whale shark for us as we headed back to port. If you are debating which company to use for an experience that makes you feel more like a traveller and less like a tourist, you can’t do better than Adventures in Baja with Karen.
Thank you Karen for an amazing trip! Just went this May to Cabo with girl friends. We swam with the whale sharks, sat on an amazing clear blue watered beach and visited Hotel California. Karen is so knowledgeable and her staff was the best. We felt very safe! Highly recommend Adventures in Baja.
Such a rememberable experience that I’m still thinking about it 2 years later – and writing a review! Karen has an infectious adventurous spirit!! We met by chance. She then nimbly arranged a tour to La Paz for my friends and I from Cabo. While there she cruised around with us in a boat to swim with a whale shark! It was fantastic and she was a joy as a fellow traveler! Karen was environmentally conscious for the welfare of the wildlife and surroundings. Thats very important to me. You have to take an excursion with her! I highly recommend!
